PODCAST Le monde de FO’AH: Episode 1

The Desert, the oasis and its Emblematic Palm Tree.

The desert and its oasis is at the center of the FO’AH dream. An effervescent place filled with stories shared in the shade of the palm tree. FO’AH is an enlightened word. Most importantly, it is in constant movement and circulation between the men and women who wear our scents. An idea of the past in motion in the present.

In this series of podcast you will discover what makes our fragrance house different. Why our perfumes have a soul.

We hope you will enjoy these and invite you to comment and share your thoughts on our topics and please don’t be shy to ask any questions you may have.

What it started with: A passion for the Palm Tree.

It’s a beautiful place. You have this infinity of sand in front of your eyes and then you spot a little green heaven nestled amongst the dunes. At first you may think it is a mirage but as you come closer, you realize that this is where life is.

It is not a surprise that this tree has fascinated many before us and still fascinates today. It is one of the oldest trees in the world and has been cultivated probably since the fifth century BC in Egypt. More recently the oasis is a place we know as an essential stop along trade routes.

When I was a child, I remember Abdulla telling me about how closely linked his life was with the Palm.

We often do not measure what this tree symbolises to people who grew up as Bedouins. For many then and now it is still a beacon of life.

Man and the Palm tree.

There is a real relation between man and the Palm. For instance, it is the tree that indicates the presence of water, that nourishes, that protects with its shade, that brings life to the desert. For anybody who has had the chance to walk in an oasis you get this wonderful feeling of a presence. It is lively it has that energy you cannot create artificially. Of course I am not rational when I say this because I grew up under these Palm Trees. I played in their shade. I would spend weekends in the desert with my family and the highlight of the adventure would always be getting to an oasis. You feel a place that is very exciting. That has been witness to so many stories, influences transformations yet it stays unchanged. It holds a strong symbolic value for people who have passed through it and most importantly rested under the shade of the Palm tree. I consider the oasis, and more precisely the Palm Tree a bit like my playground. It is what inspires my work and is my source of creativity. I spent a lot of time with Abdulla discussing the inspirations for our fragrances for instance what meaning we wanted to give them – what link they would have amongst themselves other than beautiful creations. What would root us closer to where we come from yet making it live in the present. As a result, we decided that the Palm tree would be at the center of our story, our guideline through all of our creations.

The Palm, the soul of FO'AH

The Palm tree today is part of the Soul of FO’AH and our scents are a modern tribute to a tree that has given us so much and whom we wanted to honor. I will resume this podcast by quoting a Bedouin saying: “The Palm tree is the tree of life, of our life and wherever water falls, make sure to grow one.” My name is Emilie DEWELL, and I hope you have enjoyed listening to me share a small part of “le monde de Fo’AH.” Find out more.
